Part-Time Jobs: Advantages and Disadvantages

The concept of "part time" confuses many people. In fact, there are those who confuse it with a fixed-term contract. In reality, part time is not based on the length of the employment contract but on the number of hours a person works in a professional day. There are two types of part-time: horizontal and vertical.

  • Horizontal Part-Time: Those workers who work only 4 hours per day.
  • Vertical Part-Time: Those workers who carry out their 8 hours of work on certain days of the week.

Let's see the advantages and disadvantages of a part-time job:

DISADVANTAGES:

Possibility of having different jobs

Having a part-time job could lead to the need to have two or more jobs in order to earn more money, but, on the positive side, you can create a more diverse professional profile.

Fewer opportunities for promotions

Unlike those who work full time, working part time does not allow you to spend the time necessary at work in order to learn new things. This means that you will probably not be rewarded by receiving promotions.

Salary

By working fewer hours, you will probably earn less in most cases. Obviously, those who do the same job on a full-time contract will be paid more.

BENEFITS:

More free time

By working part time, you have more free time and, consequently, more time to focus on yourself. You don’t risk falling into the "live-to-work" trap.

More time to study

Part-time work is an excellent solution for those who study and need to earn extra cash on the side. With a part-time job, combining work with studies is much easier.

Less stress

You have the opportunity to choose when you work. Therefore, you can manage your time better and have stress less. Working fewer hours means having more time for leisure and for your hobbies.
